THIS is how much money hospital trusts across Sussex made from parking charges and penalty fines last year.

NHS Digital data shows that hospital trusts providing services for our area made a total £7,740,847 in the year to March 2020.

Of that, £6,283,466 was paid by patients and visitors, while £1,587,372 was raked in through charging staff to park.

The hospital trust that took in the most money was Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which made around £2.4 million.

The hospital trust that made the least was Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, which made £140,797 through parking charges and penalty fines.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust made around £1.6 million through parking charges and penalty fines in the year to March 2020.

Of that, £1.2 million was paid by patients and visitors, while £455,104 was raked in through charging staff to park.

Figures reveal that patients and visitors paid an average hourly rate of £1.40 at the most expensive of the trust's five sites, while staff dug out 18p per hour at the priciest spot.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust

NHS Digital data shows Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust made around £1.5 million through parking charges and penalty fines in the year to March 2020.

Of that, £1.3 million was paid by patients and visitors, while £242,482 was raked in through charging staff to park.

Figures reveal that patients and visitors paid an average hourly rate of £1.20 at the most expensive of the trust's four sites, while staff dug out 21p per hour at the priciest spot.

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust

NHS Digital data shows Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust made £140,797 through parking charges and penalty fines in the year to March 2020.

Of that, £98,217 was paid by patients and visitors, while £42,580 was raked in through charging staff to park.

Figures reveal that patients and visitors paid an average hourly rate of £1.25 at the most expensive of the trust's 12 sites, while staff dug out 5p per hour at the priciest spot.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust
