A WOMAN claiming she had Covid-19 shoved a police officer then spat at another during an abusive outburst at a hospital.
The officers had intervened after hearing the woman behaving aggressively towards staff at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton at 8.30pm yesterday.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Officers heard a disturbance and found a woman behaving aggressively towards staff.
"Officers intervened and one PC was pushed and another PC spat at by the suspect who said she had Covid-19 and continued to shout abusive language."
Offices arrested a woman at the scene in connection with the assault.
Christine Whelan of Danehill Road in Brighton has been charged with three counts of assaulting an emergency worker, assault by beating, obstructing a constable in their execution of duty and using threatening/abusive words or behaviour likely to cause alarm or distress.
The 34-year-old is due to appear before Brighton Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
