ALMOST half a million coronavirus vaccines have been given out in the South East, it has been revealed.

A total of 411,257 doses have been administered in the region between December 8, 2020, and January 10 2021.

Of the 1,997,304 first jabs given out across the country, 348,863 of were given out in the South East.

A total of 183,299 people over the age of 80 received the first dose in the region, as well as 165,564 people under the age of 80.

However, only 62,394 doses of the second jab have been administered, with 48,247 of that given to those over 80. In total in England, 1,036,605 aged 80 or over have received a first dose, while 960,699 were given to those under 80.

It comes after the Prime Minister announced the Army will use “battle preparation techniques” to keep up the pace of Covid-19 vaccine rollout across the UK.

Speaking at a Downing Street press conference last week, Mr Johnson said people had a right to know how quickly jabs could be rolled out and stressed the NHS was ready to administer vaccines as quickly as they could be supplied.

He said: "We’ve now vaccinated 1.26 million people in England, 113,000 in Scotland, 49,000 in Wales and 46,000 in Northern Ireland.

“So, altogether, nearly 1.5 million people across the UK have now received their first dose and within two to three weeks all of them will have a very considerable degree of immunity.”

There are currently four GP-led vaccination sites in Brighton and Hove administering the jab.

Yesterday, MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle confirmed The Pfizer vaccine was arriving at Brighton Racecourse, ahead of the rollout - although it has to defrost before being made available to the public.

He wrote on Twitter: "Vaccination are arriving today and its being set up.

"The Pfizer vaccine takes a little while to defrost and get other arrangements so should be at end of this week/start of next week."
