IT WAS heartening to see that your straw poll as to whether a car-free city centre would be good for the city closed with 67 per cent of your readers agreeing that it would be.
This is welcome news as it shows that despite some of the inflammatory rhetoric, the majority of people want to see a city less dominated by traffic and with more healthy spaces for people and local businesses to benefit from.
Other cities that have successfully reduced city centre traffic, from Oslo to Madrid, have seen reductions in pollution, happier people and local businesses benefit from the increase in footfall.
Brighton and Hove would do well to follow suit and it is high time that we all came together to support a positive future for this city and future generations.
