LIBERAL Democrat Paul Chandler is totally wide of the mark when he talks about Peter Kyle MP “falling into a trap” by voting for the EU trade deal (Letters, Argus, January 12).
Peter made it quite clear that, in his view and that of Labour leader Keir Starmer, there was no other choice if our country was to avoid leaving with no deal at all.
By claiming MPs should vote against the deal simply because the government has a majority, Mr Chandler sets his own trap and promptly stumbles into it is himself.
Opposing something you actually want to pass is an avoidance of the responsibility voters expect from their MPs.
Lib Dem MPs described their last election manifesto policy on the EU as a “car crash”.
Now the car has been retrieved it seems they’re hurtling towards the very same ditch hoping for another outcome.
