THE director of public health has warned that the number of Covid cases has doubled in the city since the start of lockdown.
Alistair Hill, Brighton and Hove’s health chief, has urged people to follow the “stay at home message” and only leave their house for good reason.
He said: Our local hospitals are also seeing significant increases in the volume of patients with Covid which is putting extra pressure on the NHS. The continued high number of cases among the over 60s is concerning as they are the group most likely to need hospital care for Covid.
“The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Brighton and Hove has more than doubled since the current national lockdown started on January 5”
People must only leave the house for limited reasons such as shopping for essentials such as food and medicine or meeting your support or childcare bubble”
They also include working or volunteering where it is “unreasonable” to work from home or exercising outdoors once a day.
