A WEATHER warning for snow has been issued across parts of Sussex this weekend.

The yellow Met Office alert covers parts of the county north of, and including, Haywards Heath and will be in place from 3am to 8pm tomorrow.

"A band of heavy snow may bring disruption as it moves eastwards on Saturday," a spokesman for the weather service said.

As a result, people living in affected areas are being warned to expect:

  • Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel
  • Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers
  • Some rural communities could become cut off
  • Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected

However, Brighton and Hove is outside the area covered by the yellow weather warning.

Temperatures in the city are expected to vary between 3C and 8C throughout the day, though they will feel colder due to icy winds.

There will also be rain throughout the morning, the Met Office has predicted.

Further north, in Crawley, conditions are expected to be slightly colder - ranging from 1C to 4C tomorrow.

There is no snow directly forecast for the town, with the Met Office forecasting a less than 10 per cent of precipitation throughout the day.

If Sussex does see snow tomorrow, it will not be the first time the county has experienced the white stuff this month.

Crowborough residents woke up to wintry scenes on January 6.

Phil Morphew captured a couple of centimetres of snow which had settled on top of vans at the Royal Mail's Crowborough Delivery Office.

A photograph from Phil Blackwell showed how snow had also settled in the town centre, off the A26.

And Argus reader Heidi Schleider enjoyed some heavier snowfall which covered her garden this morning.
