THE FAMILY of a missing mother believe a woman pictured in the last known image of her may have finally been identified.

Georgina Gharsallah, 30, disappeared near the centre of Worthing more than two years ago and has not been seen since.

CCTV taken on the day of her disappearance shows, according to her family, Georgina with another woman in Chapel Road at about 4pm.

Now, years after the image was recorded, the family says someone has come forward to identify the other woman in the CCTV.

Mother Andrea Gharsallah said: “It’s a very, very important new lead.

“It’s what we’ve been waiting for all this time, for someone to come forward.

“This person might not have been involved, but it could lead us onto some new information about where she was going, or where they had been.

“This could open up new leads.”

The family says the “member of the public” who has come forward is “100 per cent sure” of the mystery woman’s identity.

The Argus:

“Due to the reporting person’s connection to the female in this CCTV with Georgina, we can be confident they are a very reliable source regarding this identification,” the family said.

“This witness made us aware they formally reported their identification of said female to Sussex Police one week ago.

“However, Sussex Police has not yet been in touch with the family regarding this report and has so far failed to answer any emails from Georgina’s family in this regard.

“We demand Sussex Police follow this lead immediately, as this may bring us much closer to the answers of what happened to Georgina on the day of her disappearance and, subsequently.”

Georgina “vanished without a trace” on March 7, 2018, but the case was not upgraded to a murder investigation until August last year.

Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £10,000 for information.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Sussex Police will always investigate any viable lines of enquiry in relation to the disappearance of Georgina Gharsallah, we remain committed to getting those answers the family deserve.

“This is a live investigation and we cannot go into any detail in relation to current lines of enquiry.”

Last year, the family demanded an external police review into the force’s handling of the case.

In July, the family announced it had written to the new Chief Constable of Sussex Police, Jo Shiner, requesting an independent body investigate the “actions, failures and reasoning behind all the decision making over the last two years in this investigation”.

They asked what evidence police have to declare it a homicide, why CCTV in Worthing town centre was not reviewed earlier and why the family had to carry out their own reconstruction of Georgina’s last known movements.

At the time, the force said a “comprehensive response” to those questions was provided to the family earlier in that year.
