EMERGENCY team have been called to the scene of a town centre crash.
Fire crews urged people to avoid the area as they attended the incident in High Street, Lewes.
Sussex Police have also been called to assist with recovery work.
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 5.56pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and an ambulance.
"We have now left the scene (speaking at 6.48pm) and the incident has been handed over to police."
An AA traffic report states: "There is slow traffic due to a collision involving two cars on the A277 High Street near the A2029 Fisher Street.
"Police are on the way to assist with recovery."
