BRIGHTON and Hove has the third happiest workforce in the UK, according to new research.

A study by SmartSurvey found residents reported a happiness score of 7.61 out of ten for work satisfaction, while the city scored 77.09 out of 100 overall.

The survey analysed six factors to assess work happiness, including median annual earnings, average commute times and the median number of overtime hours worked.

In Brighton and Hove, the average commute time was found to be 18.2 minutes, while median annual earnings are £27, 865.

The city's average working week is 35 hours and the median amount of overtime was found to be three hours.

Edinburgh came in at the top spot, with a slightly higher median annual salary at £28, 829, while Bournemouth was in second place.

The seaside town's residents reported the highest level of happiness in the country, at 7.75 out of 10.

Other towns and cities in the top ten include Southend-on-Sea which came fourth, followed by Bristol, Colchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and Milton Keynes in tenth place.
