THE previous Green Party administration wasted £40 million on the loss-making i360, which is now a drain on council resources and their policies led to a fall in the rate of recycling across our city.

Recently, the Greens proposed removing many of the parking spaces on the seafront, which has also resulted in a loss of income for the council.

They have also opposed park and ride schemes for many years, which would probably have reduced traffic congestion in our city.

Last year they hiked up the price of all parking permits for residents, businesses, traders and doctors by about 15 per cent, which has hit many local people who don't have a garage or a driveway to park their vehicles.

Now they are asking for an increase in the price of residents and business parking permits by a further nine per cent for residents' parking and a further 12.5 per cent for business permits to make up for a shortfall in their budget.

These additional increases, which are again well above the rate of inflation, are at a time when many people are facing hardship and will further affect many people on low and middle incomes, including NHS staff, social care workers, community staff and key workers.

The price of parking permits is likely to be among the highest in the country outside of London.

Once again, local residents and businesses are being asked to pay for the shortcomings of this Green-led administration.

Sophisticated (and expensive) public relations spin cannot hide these policies that are unfair, wasteful and likely to hit the local economy.
