A MASKED man wielding a large knife threatened a shop assistant in an attempted robbery.
Police are searching for the man, who entered the Premier store in Carden Avenue in Brighton on Tuesday at about 9pm.
He demanded money and threatened a staff member at the convenience store with a large kitchen knife, but left empty handed when the staff member refused to hand over any cash.
The suspect is white, about 6ft tall and of a broad build.
He was wearing a black mask, a black hoody with distinctive white lines on the hood and a black jacket over the hoody.
Police say he spoke with a local southern accent.
Detective Sergeant Jenny Pietersen said: "If you recognise this man please contact us either online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1193 of 19/01.
"You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
