BRIGHTON and Hove Police have revealed how many people were detained in the city over the weekend.

Officers arrested 40 people on suspicion of a range of offences.

A force spokesman said: "Individuals were arrested across the city this weekend for offences such as actual bodily harm, theft of a motor vehicle, drug and drink-driving, common assault and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply."

Brighton and Hove Police are urging people to continue to report illegal or suspicious behaviour, enabling police to continue to crack down on law-breakers.

This behaviour can be reported by calling 101, or via the Sussex Police website.

The 40 people arrested in the city over the weekend marked a slight drop on figures recorded over a weekend in January last year, before the country had entered lockdown.

On the weekend of January 4, 2020, Brighton and Hove Police made 53 arrests in the city.

Offences included drink-driving, threatening and abusive behaviour, theft and the use of a motor vehicle without insurance.
