A DRIVER is in a critical condition after a "serious crash" on the A264.
Five Oaks Road in Itchingfield, near Slinfold, is closed following the collision this morning.
Police tape has been stretched across the carriageway and emergency teams remain at the scene.
Sergeant Richards Hobbs of the Sussex Roads Policing unit, one of the officers attending, took to Twitter to warn drivers that the road is set to be shut "for some time".
This afternoon, Sussex Police confirmed that the crash had happened shortly before 8.30am and involved two vehicles.
A force spokeswoman said: "One of the drivers is in a critical condition and the second driver has minor injuries.
"The road is currently closed while emergency services are on scene.
"Police are appealing for any witnesses of the collision or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward and report this information by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Poet."
