A BALLET school is encouraging tiny feet to take up dancing during lockdown with free online lessons.

Baby Ballet, a pre-school dancing specialist, is providing dance classes for children in Sussex under the age of six.

Children as young as six months old can join in with the dancing lessons, with tap dancing also on offer for children over the age of three.

The idea has proved popular with parents, carers, nursery and schoolteachers who are continuing to educate and entertain young children during lockdown.

So far, more than 11,000 people have signed up to the national scheme for themed, daily sessions.

Baby Ballet is currently operating more than 2,000 classes per week attended by 25,000 children.

Kenny Boddy, the owner of Baby Ballet Brighton West, Hove, Shoreham and Haywards Heath said their curriculum had been thoroughly researched and developed in line with government educational frameworks.

She said: “The 10-minute sessions aim to provide a resource, in line with national learning objectives, for nursery practitioners and teachers, as well as parents and carers who are home schooling.

“Each week covers a different theme such as ‘animal adventure’ and ‘celebrating people who help’.

“There are ten minute activity sessions at 10am every weekday, as well as a boogie time, a sing-along and a story time at different times during the week.”

Along with the online sessions there are resources including activities and colouring sheets, as well as an information sheet to explain the learning objectives covered each week.

Claire O’Connor, CEO of Baby Ballet, said the company wanted to help families and teachers alike during the coronavirus lockdown.

She said: “Over the past 15 years, Baby Ballet has created classes, resources and content, which up until now have only been enjoyed by children attending our classes, but due to the challenge of the situation we find ourselves in, it is time to share it for free to help keep the nation's young children active, having fun and learning through lockdown.

“We have an overwhelming sense of responsibility to help the nation as much as we possibly can by sharing these resources with every child in the UK via parents and carers, nurseries, pre-schools and schools.”
