EIGHT people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, it has been revealed.

NHS England figures show 357 people had died in hospital at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust as of 5pm on Tuesday.

That was an increase of eight compared to Monday, when there were 349.

It means there have been 41 deaths in the past week, up from 35 the previous week.

The victims were among 9,012 deaths recorded across the South East.

It comes just days after the total number of deaths in the country passed 100,000.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced travellers returning to the UK from “red list” countries will now be sent to quarantine hotels for 10 days.

People will also be required to fill in a form explaining why their trip is necessary, with enforcement stepped up at airports to prevent leisure travel.

The Prime Minister told the Commons that passengers will be “met at the airport and transported directly into quarantine”.

Elsewhere, seven people have died from the virus at East Sussex Trust in the last 24 hours.

NHS England figures show 515 people had died in hospital as of 5pm on Tuesday.

That was an increase of seven compared to Monday, when there were 508.

It means there have been 79 deaths in the past week, down from 84 the previous week.
