A NEW political party is calling for Brighton and Hove to declare open rebellion against the UK.

Climate activists Burning Pink have written to every councillor in the city demanding they follow their “moral duty” and help bring down the British Government.

The environmental party claim humankind is facing “the greatest crisis in history” and accuse politicians of committing “a treasonous betrayal” of UK citizens.

Party members have been pictured at Brighton Town Hall gluing posters to walls and handing out leaflets to council officers.

Their demands are reported to have gone down badly with Tony Janio - the independent councillor for Hangleton and Knoll - who is said to have told the group to “stick their demands where the sun don’t shine” in an email.

Burning Pink’s list of demands for the council range from total rebellion against British state to replacing its fleet of vehicles with electric ones.

In a letter to city representatives, the party said: “As members of Britain’s new political party Burning Pink, we demand that you follow your moral, legal, and patriotic duty and declare rebellion against the nihilistic traitors in central government.

“It is your duty to demand that they immediately slash carbon emissions to protect Britain from the greatest threat in its history.

“Leaving an alien, inhospitable hell for our younger citizens violates the most fundamental and sacred moral law – to provide for one’s children.”

The group demands the council immediately writes an open “formal letter” to central government giving them three months to initiate a “radical transformation of the national economy so as to achieve net zero emission within five years”.

The Argus:

It said: “Only by making a commitment to rapid decarbonisation can a government claim to be fulfilling its social contract to not destroy the lives and livelihoods of its citizens.

“If this contract is broken then it is the duty of the citizens to bring down the government and replace it themselves with citizens’ assemblies, committed to protecting the British people from harm.

“This rebellion will consist of cutting off all financial and administrative links with the national administration.”

A “comprehensive” document of the latest science and its social implications of rebellion is available on request, the group says.

Other proposals include mandatory food waste collections, car-free days and to charge a levy for workplace parking.

They insist these demands be overseen by a legally binding citizens’ assembly made up of a lottery selection of the voting population.

A campaign of non-violent civil disobedience will start on Monday, February 15, if the demands are not met, the group said.

Brighton and Hove City Council has been contacted for comment.
