AN offshore wind farm has beaten its power generation target in 2020 by 15 per cent, it has been announced.

Rampion windfarm has had an "incredible year", generating enough energy to power the equivalent of over 400,000 homes.

The site, that is located between Brighton and Worthing, was completed in 2019.

It comes as a four-week in informal consultation was launched into Rampion 2, that could see the existing wind farm double in size.

Depending on the final scheme, Rampion 2 could power more than one million homes in the UK and reduce carbon emissions by around 1.8 million tonnes per year.

A total of 116 new turbines would also be added off the coast of Sussex.

The site would also be connected to the national grid through an underground cable stretching from Climping to Bolney.
