A TEENAGER has died in a crash this afternoon. 

Emergency services were called to the crash involving a white Fiat 500 in Worthing Road, Southwater, at 12.30pm today. 

The driver – an 18-year-old local woman – was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sussex Police warned the B2237 Worthing Road is likely to be closed in both directions "for several hours" and motorists are being advised to find other routes.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was tragically killed in a single vehicle collision in Southwater.

"The incident involving a white Fiat 500 happened in vicinity of Hop Oast Services in Worthing Road at 12.30pm.

"Police are urging anyone who saw the Fiat being driven in the area immediately before the collision – or anyone who may have captured what happened on dash cam – to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Sunningdale.

"The B2237 Worthing Road is likely to remain closed between the junctions of the A24 and Salisbury Road for some time, and motorists are advised to seek alternatives routes."

Fire crews were called to the scene by the ambulance service at 12.34pm.

Both pumps from Horsham and a heavy rescue tender crew attended, but were stood down at 1.36pm.
