AFTER a relatively mild week, temperatures are set to plummet in Brighton again as the city braces itself for another cold spell.

Conditions will drop to freezing on Saturday with the Met Office warning it will feel even colder due to chilly winter winds in the city.

Temperatures will stay between 7C and 10C up until Friday night, when a dramatic transformation is set to take place.

People will wake up the following morning to bitter conditions.

The Met Office forecasts temperatures of 1C at 6am on Saturday, with a "feels like temperature" of -2C.

The weather service's "feels like temperatures" give "a better idea about how the weather will actually feel when you step outdoors" by taking into account the wind speeds and humidity.

On Sunday morning, though the actual temperature is expected to rise to 2C, the "feels like temperature" will drop to -4C by 9am as cool wind gusts pick up to speeds of almost 30mph.

Thermometers are then expected to hit freezing in the early hours of Monday morning.

But, despite this cold spell, the Met Office has not forecast any snow in Brighton and Hove this week.

Instead, it has issued severe weather warnings for the white stuff in areas of northern England and Scotland.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist, Jason Kelly, said: “While the south of the UK hangs on to the milder air for much of this week as we approach the weekend, the area of low pressure responsible for the snow across the north of the UK will clear, allowing colder air to push south and west across much of the country.”

"Further snow is expected for most parts of Scotland on Friday, while Saturday will be cold for all."
