A PEDESTRIAN has suffered serious injuries after being struck by a van on a main road.

Police are investigating the crash at the junction of the B2179 and Itchenor Road in West Wittering.

It happened at 6.20am today (Monday, February 8) and officers are appealing for witnesses.

The pedestrian, who lives in the area, was seriously injured after the collision with the Ford Fiesta van.

Officers say the 56-year-old was rushed to hospital with head injuries, and remains there.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Now Sussex Police has appealed for witnesses or anyone with information about the crash, including those with dash cam footage, to come forward.

In a statement the force said: “We are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a crash in West Wittering.

“The incident involving a silver Ford Fiesta occurred on the B2179, close to the junction with Itchenor Road, about 6.19am on Monday 8 February.

“The pedestrian – a local man aged 56 – was taken to hospital with head injuries, where he remains at this stage. No other injuries were reported.”
