THE A27 has been closed after a crash this morning.

The collision is reported to have happened on the A27 Arundel Road in Worthing at about 7am.

Drivers are being warned to expect slow traffic in the area as a result.

A traffic report states: "The A27 Arundel Road westbound is closed and there is queueing traffic due to a collision involving a car and a lorry between the A24 Findon Road (Offington Corner, Worthing) and the A280 (Angmering/Clapham junction, Clapham).

"Local authorities have confirmed the road is closed following the accident. Traffic is slow on the opposite side of the road, likely due to onlookers."

The AA has warned of "severe delays" in the area as a result of the crash.

Drivers have reported that a recovery lorry has attended the scene to remove a damaged car.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 7.08am to reports of a collision between a car and a lorry on the A27 at Worthing, near Castle Goring.

"The driver of the car is being treated by paramedics – his injuries are not thought to be serious at this time.

"The westbound carriageway is closed between its junctions with the A280 and the Offington roundabout while vehicle recovery is arranged."

UPDATE

The road was reported to have been reopened at about 9am.
