MORE SNOW is expected today as Storm Darcy continues to freeze the South East.

The storm - also known as Beast from the East 2 - is the result of strong easterly winds from Ukraine and the Black Sea area.

Thousands of people across Sussex woke up to a dusting of snow, including residents in Brighton.

Pictures showed the city was covered in a light blanket of snow, with cars and pavements frozen.

Stunning pictures snapped high above Worthing also showed hundreds of rooftops covered from the overnight dusting.

The once golden pebbled beach was turned into a shade of white, as passerby's walked along the icy seafront footpath.

The cold weather is set to continue with a Met Office weather warning for snow in place across Sussex until Wednesday.

The plummeting temperatures caused by Storm Darcy led to treacherous conditions on the road, as Sussex police warned motorists to stay at home.

Officers closed several smaller roads after two collisions near Frant, northeast of Crowborough yesterday morning.

In a statement issued via social media, a spokesman for the Sussex Police Rural Crime Team said: "We are assisting Wealden Police and Sussex Roads Police in closing roads after two road traffic collisions near Frant this morning, likely caused by the weather conditions.

"Main roads may be clear but the lesser lanes are still treacherous. Please take care and stay at home unless necessary."

It follows a spate of incidents on Sunday when there were three crashes at the same junction near West Hoathly.

The yellow weather warning for snow will be in place until the end of the day on Wednesday when the storm is expected to have passed.
