THIS picture of women at work in Brighton telephone exchange prompted lots of memories.

Many former employees, who were obviously there later than this 1920s scene, recalled what a strict regime it was but they all said it was a happy place.

For some time, women worked the day shifts and men worked nights.

Another picture of a man at work was initially a mystery but a little digging revealed all.

It shows modernisation of Brighton Aquarium – what a shame all that wonderful stonework was removed.

One of our other 1920s' pictures today show what was probably the Brighton Christmas Day swim - the current passion for sea swimming is obviously nothing new.

The general consensus is that these are hardy Christmas Day swimmers in Brighton, circa 1929. It’s a scene that has been replicated many times and, while the costumes have changed a lot, the Palace Pier looks reassuringly familiar

Then we have another mystery picture. These people crossing the road by Brighton Station look very affluent – note the women’s fabulous outfit. Unfortunately we don’t know anything more about them or why they were being photographed.
