THANK you The Argus for providing me with a good laugh when you reported the quote from Brighton and Hove City Council that " it is illegal to cycle
on pavement not designated as shared spaces and police have the power to issue fixed penalty notices to anyone doing so".
As someone who sees cyclists almost every day cycling illegally on the pavement I have yet to see the police take any action against them. I have
even seen police on the Hove promenade in the summer, on the lookout for people breaking lockdown regulations, watch cyclists there illegally without
taking any action.
It would be interesting to discover how many cyclists have been charged with illegally using the pavement as a cycle lane. I suspect very very few.
