A TEENAGE mother went into a cardiac arrest while giving birth and died weeks later.
Teegan Barnard from Havant in Hampshire was admitted to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester during the third trimester of her pregnancy in September 2019.
The 17-year-old's baby boy, named Parker, was born by an emergency caesarean on September 9, that year.
But Teegan suffered a bleed and cardiac arrest during labour, leaving her in a critical condition.
The new mum remained in hospital until September 26 and died at home on October 7.
An inquest opened into Teegan's death this morning at Crawley Coroner's Court heard she had suffered maternal cardiac arrest following a haemorrhage.
The full inquest is set to take place at the court on May 27.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper following her daughter's death, Teegan's mother Abbie Hallawell said: "She would have been the best mummy in the world.
"She had so much love for Parker and didn’t even get to show him.
"I miss her more than anything in the world. We were more like best friends than mother and daughter."
