POLICE have paid tribute to a "larger than life" constable who has died.

The Sussex Police Federation described the death of PC Doug Franks earlier this week as "devastating".

The federation said it would not be releasing any further details at this time.

Daren Egan, chairman of Sussex Police Federation, said: “I know many of Doug’s colleagues will be utterly devastated - and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this terrible time.

Mr Egan said it had been "an incredibly difficult week" for the force, following the death of PC Franks and also Sgt Sean Preston, who died yesterday from Covid-19.
