EIGHTY people in Brighton and Hove tested positive for coronavirus over the weekend, figures have revealed.

Public Health England figures show that 13,709 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Monday, up from 13,629 the same time on Friday.

The rate of infection in Brighton and Hove now stands at 4,713 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 6,301.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 34,044 over the period to 4,047,843.

The Brighton and Hove cases were among the 506,557 recorded across the South East, a figure which rose by 3,397 over the period.

In East Sussex, the number of recorded coronavirus cases increased by 145.

It means the rate of infection there now stands at 5,280 cases per 100,000 people.

In West Sussex, figures show that 38,854 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in the latest reporting period, up from 38,518 on Friday.

That is an increase of 336 over the weekend.

The rate of infection in West Sussex now stands at 4,497 cases per 100,000 people, also far lower than the England average of 6,301.

The area’s cases were among the 506,557 recorded across the South East, a figure which rose by 3,397 over the period.
