Trains are currently unable to run from Brighton towards Hove due to a safety inspection of the track between the two stations.
Services have been cancelled and delayed as a result with disruption expected to continue until 12pm.
A Southern Rail spokesman said: "Trains are currently unable to run from Brighton towards Hove. You will need to use an alternative route, so please check before travelling and leave extra time to complete your journey.
"Your ticket will be accepted, at no extra cost, on Brighton and Hove Buses on all routes between Brighton and Hove."
Passengers may also be entitled to compensation if their journey is delayed.
"Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim," the company spokesman said.
