A RESCUE operation was launched after a seagull became trapped on a TV aerial.

The bird was spotted dangling from an aerial on the roof of a house in Livingstone Road, Hove, yesterday morning.

Luckily the seagull had a warm reception - as fire crews used a cherry picker to come to its aid.

Joe Farragher, who lives in the street, was among the surprised residents drawn to their windows and doorsteps when the fire engine appeared outside.

The illustrator, 32, said: "I was just working from home at the time when I saw the fire engine.

"One of the aerials had fallen over and the seagull looked like it had its wing trapped and was hanging off.

"I put the pictures on Reddit and someone said it was their sister in the fire brigade who rescued the seagull and it was handed over to a wildlife rescue.

The Argus:

"It was certainly a bit of a change of scenery from the norm at the moment."

The seagull is reported to be "grumpy but expected to be released within four to five days".

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 09.46am on Wednesday to carry out an animal rescue at a residential property in Livingstone Road in Hove.

"Firefighters from Hove and Preston Circus attended.

The Argus:

"Crews released one seagull who was caught in a TV aerial on the roof of the property.

"The seagull was released and crews left the scene at 10.33am."
