ARMED officers have arrested two men after a car was spotted driving "erratically".

A black Mercedes was reported to Sussex Police in Eastbourne shortly before 1pm after being seen driving "erratically" in the Willingdon area.

It was spotted on the outskirts of Brighton and stopped by armed police at the Palace Pier roundabout just over an hour later.

As many as six police cars, including two vans, have been pictured blocking the A259 Marine Parade westbound, near the Sealife Centre.

Pictures from the scene show a crowd of onlookers standing in front of Brighton Palace Pier, while cars queue to get passed a police van parked in the middle of the road.

The men were arrested on suspicion of public order and driving offences.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "The black Mercedes had been brought to the attention of police in Eastbourne shortly before 1pm on Thursday after it had been seen being driven erratically in the Willingdon area.

"It was located on the outskirts of Brighton and stopped at the Palace Pier roundabout at 2.20pm.

"Armed officers were involved in stopping the vehicle and detaining the men who were arrested on suspicion of driving and public order offences."
