A man led police on a car chase for several miles after officers received reports that he had "made threats" in Brighton.

Officers attended the scene in Canterbury Drive at 9.30pm but, as they arrived, the man climbed into a car and made off towards the A27

The vehicle was eventually stopped at the Kingston roundabout near Lewes.

Witnesses described seeing eight police cars at the site shortly before 11pm.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "Police responded to a report of a man making threats in Brighton at 9.30pm on Thursday, February 18.

"Officers attended an address in Canterbury Drive and the suspect made off in a vehicle towards the A27.

"Following a pursuit, units safely stopped the vehicle in the Lewes area.

"A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of engaging in coercive or controlling behaviour, failing to stop for police, drug-driving and driving without a licence.

"He remains in custody for questioning."
