A SUSPECT has been arrested after a woman reported being raped.

Police are investigating an incident in Mile Oak Road near Mile Oak Farm at 10pm on Tuesday (February 16).

A woman came forward to police to make the allegation.

Now police have appealed for information about the incident and want to track down any witnesses.

In particular, officers want to speak to anyone who saw a black Vauxhall saloon parked in the area.

They want anyone who may have seen what happened, or in the run up or aftermath, to come forward, including anyone with car dashcam footage or CCTV in the area.

Detective Sergeant Jemma Paterson said: "We thank the victim for her bravery in speaking to us about this incident.

“She is being supported by specially trained officers in the Safeguarding Investigations Unit (SIU)."Our investigation is progressing at pace and we are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened or may have relevant CCTV or dash-cam footage.

“Specifically, we are keen to hear from anyone who saw a parked car on Mile Oak Road near Mile Oak Farm at around 10pm on Tuesday.

"This is being treated as an isolated incident and at this time there is not thought to be any threat to the wider community.”

Sussex Police said a 33-year-old man from Eastbourne has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

He has been bailed subject to strict conditions while enquiries are ongoing.
