TRIBUTES have continued to come in throughout the week for "Brighton's oldest raver" Disco Pete.

Pete Turner, who was well known across the city for his appearances at music events, his dance moves and his colourful outfits, died last Saturday at the age of 84.

Laura Hardcastle said she saw Disco Pete out at every club, festival and Pride described him as "an absolute gentleman".

He was a regular at the Brighton Music Hall, and carried on attending gigs and clubs well into his old age - even when he was wheelchair-bound.

Jay Jackson said Pete would also appear at outdoor broadcasts for the former Brighton radio station Juice 107.2, and described his death as "a huge loss to the city".

In an Argus tribute thread to Disco Pete on Facebook, Phil Edwards wrote: "So many posts all over the internet refer to Pete as 'a Brighton Legend', but he was so much more than that.

The Argus:

"He worked as an orderly in a world famous children's hospital (where he later returned as a volunteer as, believe it or not, a DJ).

"He worked as a youth worker, supporting children from areas of high social deprivation.

"He also campaigned for social justice, and for child safety over many years.

"Disco Pete was one of a kind, and we shall not see his like again."

Pay tribute to Disco PeteDisco Pete was my favourite part of Brighton! He always brought joy and a smile wherever he went, and I remember fondly when I was a little kid, dancing with him in the children's parades. He was always so gentle and kind and I am so glad he continued dancing. What a special man he will be remembered fondly. Rest easy, Disco Pete.
