BORIS Johnson has unveiled his four-stage plan to lift coronavirus restrictions across the UK.

Included within the "roadmap" announced to the House of Commons today is the reopening of beer gardens, pubs and nightclubs.

In the first phase, all pupils in England’s schools are expected to return to class from March 8.

Socialising in parks and public spaces with one other person will also be permitted from that date.

When will beer gardens reopen?

From April 12 at the earliest, outdoor hospitality venues such as beer gardens will reopen.

On this date, shops, hairdressers, nail salons, libraries, outdoor attractions are also set to come back.

When will pubs reopen?

From May 17 at the earliest, two households or groups of up to six people will be allowed to mix indoors and limited crowds will be allowed at sporting events.

This will allow for pubs to reopen indoors.

When will nightclubs reopen?

From June 21 at the earliest, all remaining restrictions on social contact could be lifted.

This would mean that larger events can go ahead and nightclubs can finally reopen.

There are four conditions, the government says, that must be met at each stage before proceeding to the next one. These are:

  • New coronavirus variants, such as the South African strain, do not increase the risk of lifting restrictions
  • Infection rates are not risking a hospital admissions surge
  • Vaccines are reducing the number of people experiencing serious illness or death with the virus
  • The current vaccine rollout goes to plan

In the first phase of the PM's roadmap, all pupils in England’s schools are expected to return to class from March 8.

Socialising in parks and public spaces with one other person will also be permitted from that date.

A further easing of restrictions will take place on March 29 when the school Easter holidays begin – with larger groups of up to six people or two households allowed to gather in parks and gardens.
