A PROLIFIC criminal is back behind bars for spitting and attempting to headbutt police officers.

Toni Deerans was previously jailed in August last year for burgling homes and stealing bank cards in Brighton and Hove.

The 37-year-old, who had been on the Sussex Police wanted list, served half of her 18-month prison spell.

Then on February 12, officers were called to an incident in Loder Road, Brighton.

Deerans tried to attack PC Bashford and PC Buckle during the incident.

Brighton Magistrates’ Court documents show she had attempted to headbutt one of the officers and also spat during the attacks.

The court noted that her behaviour was “particularly dangerous in Covid-19 times”.

Deerans admitted two assaults, and admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour.

The court decided that only a prison sentence could be justified for Deerans, formerly of Preston Park Road, Brighton.

She was jailed for six months, to “reflect the seriousness of the crime” and her “inability to comply” with court orders.

Previously The Argus reported how there was a £500 reward for information to find Deerans in January 2020.

She was then arrested in May, and at Lewes Crown Court he admitted seven charges, which included four burglaries in Brighton.

The other three charges included making false representations and using stolen bank cards to pay for goods in shops.
