A PROLIFIC shoplifter stole razors, candles, alcohol and Nesquik during his latest crime spree.

Nathan Boughton targeted three Asda stores in Brighton and elsewhere in Sussex.

The 33-year-old scaffolder, with an “appalling record of previous convictions” was back in court for his latest crimes.

He was given a 12-week suspended prison sentence and ordered to clean up his act with six months of drugs rehabilitation treatment.

Previously The Argus reported how Boughton had been a recovering drug addict after being a heroin user for ten years.

During his latest offences he admitted the theft of £532 worth of goods from Asda at Hailsham in September last year.

Brighton Magistrates’ Court court heard the “high value thefts” included stealing multiple items.

Then on January 24 this year he went to the Asda store in Crowhurst Road, Hollingbury where he stole items worth £342.

The next day he was at Asda at Brighton Marina where he stole a further £126 worth of goods.

In August 2018 The Argus reported how Boughton had scuffled with security guards and police at the Lidl store in Eastern Road, Brighton after staff spotted him attempting to leave without paying for meat.

When challenged, he grabbed a fire extinguisher before the police were called.

During chaotic scenes in front of other shoppers, two police officers arrived, but along with two store detectives they were unable to subdue him.

The officers tried to use spray against him, but ended up nearly blinding themselves, while Boughton grabbed a baton off one of them.

It was only when they threatened to Taser him that he gave up.

Then, when officers searched him, they found him in possession of a knuckle duster.

Boughton had relapsed days before that incident after being released from prison.

In August 2018 he was given a suspended sentence and was told to clean up his act with drug rehabilitation treatment.

Then in June 2019 he was jailed for a further crime spree.

Boughton admitted stealing seven bottles of vodka worth £106 from Marks and Spencer in Western Road, Brighton.

A week later he stole a mix of ribeye steaks, rump steaks, chicken fillets, lamb chops, and lamb leg steaks worth £81 from Sainsbury’s in North Street.

Now following his latest crimes, Boughton, of Buckingham Place, Brighton, was told to complete 19 Thinking Skills Programme sessions and 15 rehabilitation sessions with the probation service.

He must also pay £200 in compensation for the loss to Asda.
