A MAJOR new development at the Sussex County Cricket Ground will include luxury apartments, office space and a pub.

Demolition of the old site in Eaton Road has now been completed and construction is set to begin on the First Century County Ground development in the south west corner of the club.

The apartment blocks will be made up of 37 luxury one, two and three-bedroom flats, along with "exceptional" three and four-bedroom flats.

The Argus:

Newly released images show plans for the apartments' stylish interiors by developer Roffey Homes.

Many of the flats will have outdoor space with wide, south-facing balconies, and on the sixth floor there will be a communal rooftop terrace with views across the cricket ground.

There will also be underground car parking and cycle storage, while a new pub will also replace the Sussex Cricketer.

The Argus:

The residential part of the development has been named The Tate Residences after the Tate Memorial Gate - a monument to one of Sussex’s most gifted players which will be reinstated alongside a new clock tower at the site.

Construction work is expected to take about 18 months.

Rob Andrew, Sussex Cricket’s chief executive, said: “The level of interest in The Tate Residences, even before we go into the ground has been very strong and we believe the quality of the development and its location will prove to be very appealing to purchasers.

The Argus:

“As we move forward with a significant project for the club, I am excited that we will produce a landmark building which will become an impressive entrance to our cricket ground, but also create a long term commercial asset for the club which will help our plans for further ground development and financial stability in the future.”
