BRIGHTON Palace Pier has been recognised as one of the top attractions in the UK by TripAdvisor.

The popular attraction finished ninth in the amusement park category of the review website's Travellers’ Choice Awards

The esteemed list is calculated by reviewing millions of reviews and opinions submitted to TripAdvisor over the course of a year. The awards take into account the quality and quantity of traveler reviews, and ratings specific to each award category.

"The hallmark of winners is and will continue to be remarkable service and quality experiences for travellers," TripAdvisor says.

Brighton Palace Pier, one of the city's most instantly recognisable sights, has consistently proved popular with visitors in recent years. And, despite having to close its metal gates for months at a time due to a succession of lockdowns over the last 12 months, the attraction still drew plenty of praise from fans.

During a visit in October last year, one reviewer said: "Thoroughly enjoyed a nostalgic stroll down the pier, lots of signs up to encourage social distancing - blustery and bracing.

"Visited late afternoon Tuesday. The loos were really clean and tidy which impressed us."

Another regular visitor said: "Me and my fiancé come every year and love playing on the arcade games.

"The pier offers great views, hours of fun and a good amount of food and drink options at a fairly reasonable price."

During its time on TripAdvisor, the pier has attracted more than 3,250 five-star reviews.

Brighton Palace Pier chief executive Anne Ackord said: "We are always pleased when our pier is recognised by our customers on TripAdvisor.

"We always strive to provide a great day out and memories that last a lifetime."
