FOODIES will get the chance to quiz a MasterChef winner on how to recreate his delicious dishes in a virtual “At the chef’s table” event.

Steven Edwards, who runs etch restaurant in Church Road in Hove, is to host an online cooking demonstration on how to make one of his favourite dishes and provide top tips to enthusiastic cooks.

Steven, who was the winner of the BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals in 2013, is hosting the event in aid of Rockinghorse Children’s Charity, the official fundraising arm at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton.

He said: “I love working with local charities and think it’s really important to raise awareness of the work that Rockinghorse does.

“I’ve also signed up for the Rockinghorse football team so it’s nice to be able to support the charity in two different ways.

“It’s an easy decision to work for them and I really hope people will enjoy taking part in this event and help raise some much-needed funds for this great cause.”

As well as a 40-minute cooking demonstration, people will also get the chance to take part in a raffle.

Prizes include a five-course tasting menu for two from etch, once hospitality venues can open again, hampers from award-winning Worthing food producer Piglet’s Pantry and gift packs from Harvey’s Brewery in Lewes.

Tickets cost £40 per household and guests will also receive a bottle of Italian sparkling wine from Butler’s Wine Cellar in Brighton and a signed recipe card from Steven so they can recreate his dish at home.

Stella Buckingham, events fundraising manager at Rockinghorse, said she is delighted to offer supporters something special after months without the charity’s usual fundraising events during Covid-19.

She said: “For the last year we have been unable to run many face-to-face events due to the pandemic so we are really excited we have been able to arrange this amazing virtual event.

“To be able to learn directly from one of the best chefs in the city, ask questions about his technique and ingredients and even have a go at the recipe at home is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“Along with the fantastic raffle prizes available it is sure to be a popular evening and the first of several ‘At the chef’s table’ events we are hoping to run.”

The event will take place online at 7pm on March 22.
