A SUSPECT has been charged over an incident involving a weapon outside a supermarket.

Police were called to St James’s Street in Brighton where a man was “behaving aggressively”.

Witnesses saw him outside the Morrisons store at 10pm on February 23.

One said: “I was walking down St James's Street and I saw this guy outside Morrison's.

“He had something behind his back, it looked like either a samurai sword or a metal pole.

"As I walked past I thought, 'was that a weapon?'. Then a police car drove by."

"Officers pinned a man to the ground and put him in handcuffs and leg restraints.

"Then they put the weapon in some sort of tube.

“Police were brilliant - they had it under control in minutes."

Sussex Police said officers responded after reports of a man with a metal pole who was behaving aggressively.

There were claims that a suspect spat at officers, and a metal pole was seized as police made an arrest.

Now the force said 18-year-old Marian-Emil Jorascu, of no fixed address, was charged with possessing an offensive weapon and assaulting an emergency worker.

He was bailed to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court again on June 28 to respond to the charges.
