A UNIVERSITY of Brighton student missed out on winning the £182 million EuroMillions jackpot by the finest of margins.

All of 19-year-old Rachel Kennedy's seven numbers matched the lucrative draw last Friday, but her ticket payment had not gone through as she did not have enough funds in her account, the Daily Star reported.

She had used the sequence of numbers - 6, 12, 22, 29, 33, 6 and 11 - for the past five weeks.

Rachel was notified she had a "Winning Match" through The National Lottery App, quickly calling her boyfriend Liam McCrohan to share the incredible news.

But hopes of a new home and more were soon dashed as games business Camelot, which operates The National Lottery, broke the news that her ticket purchase had not gone through due to insufficient funds in her account.

Liam shared the news on social media, Tweeting: "When your Mrs decides to not play the EuroMillons... and all seven of her usual numbers come up".

His post has attracted more than 35,000 likes.

The 21-year-old later posted a picture of the winning numbers being used at the start of last month for the benefit of "everyone saying its fake".

Liam told the Daily Star: "She was quite relaxed about it but I had kind of spent it in my head already.

"I was absolutely heartbroken when we heard the man on the phone say we hadn’t actually bought the ticket.

"I was already picturing our dream house and the dream car, I think I was getting a bit carried away to be fair."

The draw has since been claimed by one winner in Switzerland.
