SOME classic landmarks feature in our Argus archive pictures today.
This was how Hove Town Hall looked in 1938 – what a fabulous building.
Sadly, of course, it is no more.
We still have the Clock Tower in the middle of Brighton, though.
Apparently the building about to go up on that site next to it was Burtons, which dates the picture to about 1928.
More building work was going on in Wild Park at around that time – the picture shows the cafe and changing rooms going up. In the distance is Moulsecoomb.
On the right is the old school which became Brighton Polytechnic. The “Circus Street Annex” was later used as art studios and then photography courses.
Our last picture is a little later, about 1936, and shows the building of the Circus Street fruit and veg market.
These great pictures have been colourised at www.spcolourcollection.com.
