DEFENDANTS have been convicted for a range of offences in our courts in the past few weeks.
The Argus reports on these cases in the public interest, to allow our audience to understand what happens to cases in our magistrates’ courts.
Here is a round-up of some of those named in court in Sussex for their crimes.
OHRAN GIBB
Aged 23, of Lewes Road, Brighton, admitted assaulting a woman and criminal damage to her iPhone worth £599. To complete 30 Building Better Relationships sessions and 20 rehabilitation sessions. To pay £599 compensation.
ELIJAH FLANAGAN
Aged 20, of Vale Crescent, Kingston-upon-Thames, admitted possessing cannabis in Brighton. Fined £70, with a £34 surcharge and £50 costs.
DANIEL MILLER
Aged 42, of Middle Street, Brighton, admitted possessing a stun gun and class A drugs, psilocin (usually found in mushrooms). Fined £240, with a £34 surcharge and £85 costs.
MARK ALLEN
Aged 54, of Albion Street, Brighton, admitted assaulting a police officer. To pay £70 compensation and £50 costs.
SARAH CORNFORD
Aged 35, of no fixed address, admitted assaulting two PCSOs in Worthing. To complete 30 rehabilitation sessions and pay a £95 surcharge.
NATHAN TOWNSEND
Aged 29, of Oriental Place, Brighton, admitted breaching a community protection notice six times by being in locations such as Clarence Square, Brighton. To pay a £95 fine and £34 surcharge.
ELLA ROCHFORD
Aged 26, of Broadwater Way, Worthing, admitted twice stealing sandwiches worth £2.50 each and SIM cards worth 99p from Tesco Express, stealing Calvin Klein socks worth £100 from TK Maxx, and food and wine worth £36 from McColls. To pay back the full cost in compensation and complete 30 rehabilitation sessions.
CARLY ANN SMART
Aged 30, of Lower Rock Gardens, Kemp Town, admitted failing to keep in touch with her supervisor following release from prison. Fined £80, with £60 costs.
DANIEL KADLEC
Aged 38, of no fixed address, admitted stealing seven bottles of wine from the Co-op in Church Road, Hove. Fined £40.
JONATHAN SIBLEY
Aged 53, of Byron Road, Worthing, found guilty of assaulting a man. Given a conditional discharge, £22 surcharge and £750 costs.
LANCE DANIELS
Aged 33, of Preston Street, Brighton, admitted possession of cocaine and heroin. Fined £100, £32 surcharge, £85 costs.
JAMES MATTHEWS
Aged 30, of Hammersmith Gardens, Dunstable, admitted stealing meat and attempting to steal Desperados beer from the Co-op in Western Road, Hove. Given an eight-week suspended sentence, with a £128 surcharge.
PETER CARLILL
Aged 47, of Roundstone Drive, East Preston, found guilty of harassment likely to cause alarm or distress at Worthing Railway Station. To complete 12 rehabilitation sessions and to pay a £150 fine, £95 surcharge and £600 costs.
ANTHONY ABNETT
Aged 32, of Granville Road, Eastbourne, admitted burgling the Seaford Constitutional Club and taking £1,100 cash. To complete six months of drugs dependency treatment, 100 hours of unpaid work, 20 rehabilitation sessions and pay £550 compensation.
ASHLEY HINZE
Aged 29, of Stone Gate Way, Heathfield, admitted burgling the Seaford Constitutional Club and taking £1,100 cash. To complete ten rehabilitation sessions and to pay £550 compensation.
