FIREFIGHTERS worked to extinguish flames which erupted in an industrial estate.
Residents near Midhurst Road, Lavant, were told to keep their doors and windows closed while six crews tackled the blaze last night.
The fire broke out at about 6.50pm in an Eastmead Industrial Estate building.
Two crews from Chichester Fire Station and Bognor Fire Station were joined by crews from Arundel and Midhurst.
Pictures from the scene show fighters using an aerial ladder platform to and hose jet to tackle the fire.
Shortly after 11pm, a spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “The industrial unit was well alight on their arrival, but crews acted quickly to bring the fire under control, using the aerial ladder platform to help deal with the fire.
“The incident has now been scaled down and two crews from Chichester Fire Station remain on site.”
