MORE THAN three tonnes of rubbish were lifted and cleared from a section of the A27 last week.

Everything from cans, food packaging, crisps packs to vehicle parts from accidents have been removed between Hangleton and Southwick tunnel westbound.

The eastbound section is next to be cleaned on May 1, when Brighton and Hove City Council can get safe access to the road again.

It comes after bottles of urine were among more than 12 tonnes of rubbish removed from the road last year.

At the time, Highways England and the city council worked together over five nights and cleared the busy road and its grassy verges of 12.5 tonnes of rubbish – equivalent to the weight of eight family sized cars.
