I AGREE with Chris Williams' words in The Argus about how unsafe cycling is.

I was walking home and the atmosphere was filled with car exhaust fumes due to the unnecessary congestion of single-lane traffic.

It was piled back right past Olive Road, Hove, and our house.

There was not one cyclist in sight in the TEMPORARY cycle lane but I was nearly hit by a guy on a bike with a dog on a leash running alongside. This idiot came from the back of me.

If the traffic would be able to use both lanes as intended when this road was built I would be happy.

I have been a cyclist all of my life and if you know how to cycle safely there is not a problem.

It only becomes a problem when cyclists do what they want to do, riding on the pavement to avoid having to stop at traffic lights, not using any form of signalling, riding too close to cars that are parked - I think it's a car door's width approximately, one metre?

And being aware that you give and take while out on your bike, the same as for motorists.

It seems cyclists have this mentality of "keep death off the road, cycle on the pavement" as our idiot friend did and his poor old dog.
