AN INCREDIBLE video shows a playful seal capturing and eating a big fish in the River Adur.

The clip shows the seal holding the fish in his mouth before disappearing underwater to tuck into his meal.

Julie Curram took the video shortly before 3pm on Saturday when she was crossing the bridge by The Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham.

The sighting was reported to Brighton Dolphin Project - an organisation which aims to “inspire and engage the local community to learn about the incredible marine wildlife off the Sussex coast”.

A spokesman said that the charity has received several reports of common harbour seals being sighted around Sussex.

In January, Argus Camera Club member Sue Barnett spotted a seal near Shoreham and managed to get close-up pictures of him in action and resting on the riverbank.

Earlier that month, Lily Pichon captured the moment a seal popped his head above the water off Brighton beach.

The Sea Watch Foundation has asked the public to help gather further information for a study of Sussex seals in lockdown.

Brighton Dolphin Project encourages people to report sightings of marine animals to help with its conservation work.
