FOUR people have died from coronavirus at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust over the weekend.

NHS England figures show 459 people had died in hospital as of 5pm on Sunday.

That was an increase of four compared to Friday, when there were 455.

It means there have been 16 deaths in the past week, up from 13 the previous week.

The victims were among 11,277 deaths recorded across the South East.

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Brighton and Hove increased by 13 over the weekend.

Figures show that 14,086 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Monday in the city - up from 14,073 the same time on Friday.

It means the rate of infection in the area now stands at 4,843 cases per 100,000 people, lower than the England average of 6,570.

At East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, one death was recorded over the weekend.

It means there have been 11 deaths in the past week, down from 17 the previous week.

The victims were among 11,277 deaths recorded across the South East.

A total of 23 people also tested positive for the virus over the same time period.

The rate of infection in the area now stands at 5,393 cases per 100,000 people, while East Sussex's cases were among the 523,263 recorded across the South East.

In West Sussex, the number of recorded coronavirus cases in West Sussex increased by 74.
