PEOPLE in the city aged between 56 and 59 are being invited to get their first dose of the covid-19 vaccine this week.

Residents in the age group have been asked to book an appointment to have a jab, as the biggest vaccination programme in NHS history continues to gather pace.

Letters to those aged 56 to 59 began landing on doorsteps from this week.

People receiving the letters are invited to go online to arrange a jab at a time and location that is convenient for them. If they are not able to go online, they can call 119 free of charge.

Anybody who is eligible but hasn’t been vaccinated yet, is urged to go online or call 119 and get themselves booked in.

A Sussex NHS Commissioners spokesman said: "The local NHS and City council have launched a campaign to make sure no one misses out on their COVID-19 vaccine offer.

"The 'No one’s safe until we’re all safe’ campaign is aimed at making sure everyone in Brighton and Hove is supported to access their vaccination, and any barriers that they may face overcome or concerns they may have are listened to and responded to.

"The campaign sees city partners working in close collaboration to ensure that we are reaching everyone who wants to have their vaccination and they are supported to receive it.

"This includes outreach services, work with communities to support our diverse communities to understand any barriers to them receiving it, as well as clear information across the city on the vaccination programme that is targeted to communities, written in community languages.

The NHS is vaccinating in line with government guidance which sees people invited to be vaccinated in order of risk, which increases with age.

People aged between 50 and 55 are set to be invited "shortly."

People can use the national booking service to reserve a slot at a NHS Vaccination Centre or one of the pharmacy-led services across the country.

Appointments are staggered to allow for social distancing and people are being asked not to turn up early to avoid creating queues.

Everyone will receive a health status check and a pre-vaccination assessment before they have their jab.
